Westminster Adult Education Services’ (WAES) former Director of Curriculum and Quality, Sandra Angadi has been short listed for a QIA STAR lifetime Achievement Award.
In its third year, the QIA STAR Awards reward and recoginse the outstanding individuals who work in the post-16 learning and skills sector. The finalists across seventeen prize categories have beaten off competition from more than 3000 other people recognised with a STAR nomination this year.
Having only just recently retired in July this year, Sandra championed and drove her vision of a modern, responsive and dynamic curriculum for more than 30 years. She pioneered the development of a unitised framework for vocational qualifications and is now championing the new Framework for Achievement.
Under her leadership and vision innovative partnerships were developed with many local, high-profile employers including the Hilton Hotel Group and other prestigious hotels such as Claridges and Berkley.
Andrew Thomson, Chief Executive at the QIA says: “Those who have been short-listed for a QIA STAR Award have made a difference to the lives of learners, to colleagues and to the sector.
“The announcement of the short list is a time when these people can be publicly recognised for their role in delivering the highest quality of education and training to millions of people in England. Each of these individuals truly deserves recognition,” Thomson said.
Eileen O’Gara, Deputy Director of Curriculum and Quality at WAES said that Sandra had continually seized opportunities to develop the organisation.
“She has led and transformed the curriculum into a flexible and diverse offer that is now delivered in 98 venues and 3 main sites,” O’Gara said.
“Sandra models and demands very high standards from her staff while nurturing their potential. Her extraordinary commitment has inspired others to exceed their expectations of themselves,” O’Gara said. “Sandra has always remained in touch with the issues at all levels of the curriculum and is a commanding presence that is highly respected across the organisation.”
Prize Winners will be announced at the national QIA STAR Awards Ceremony on 30 October 2006.
