Mobile Social Network “Qeep” an International Hit, with 100,000 Members Worldwide in First Three Months

Cell-Phone Application Makes Mobile Interaction Virtually Free for Young People around the World

Mobile social network “Qeep” recently reached 100,000 registered users, with registrants continuing to arrive at a rate of 1,500 to 2,000 new users per day. The network has won increased worldwide attention by adapting to suit the needs of an international market.

“Qeep’s internat ional success is primarily due to the versatile design of the community, which allow users to comfortably interact across cultures,” said Christian Schulte, co-founder and managing director of Blue Lion mobile, which produced Qeep. Among the most popular features have been Qeep’s free “QMS” messaging system and its photo-sharing service. Users of the network, or “Qeepers,” as they are called, have sent 2 million messages and blogged 20,000 photos in just three months.

Contributing to the popularity of these features is their extremely low cost. Qeep operates on an Internet-based network. Though the application is accessed via mobile phone, actual data is sent across the Internet. Such data-transfer rates are far cheaper than alternative transmission systems. QMS messages, for instance, are sent via a data-compression system at a fraction of the cost of SMS. Blogged photos are viewable from within the network, permitting photo-sharing between friends that completely circumvents the cost of multimedia messaging services, or MMS. Other interactive services include multiplayer games and the “Sound Attack,” which activates humorous sounds in other users’ phones. Qeepers have already played 80,000 games and sent 70,000 Sound Attacks, respectively.

According to Christian Schulte, “Qeep has become more appealing to users through internationalization. We’re happy to see our community grow. The more users Qeep has, the more fun it is for everyone. And that’s what we’re about.”

To sign up for Qeep, users can request an account at www.qeep.net, or download the software directly to their mobile phone via Qeep’s WAP portal, at wap.qeep.net.
