Reykjavik and Warsaw finally connected by budget airline

Iceland Express has launched its much anticipated Reykjavik to Warsaw service – and with it the first direct scheduled flights between Iceland and Poland.

Icelandic budget airline, Iceland Express last week launched its new flights from Reykjavik to Warsaw. The cheap flights will come as welcome news to Iceland’s large Polish community, who previously had to change flights in Berlin, Copenhagen or London.

The flight between Reykjavik and Warsaw is four hours, making it Iceland’s only direct flight link to Poland and Eastern Europe.

Poles form the largest community of foreigners in Iceland, but Iceland Express hopes a large proportion of seats on the new route will be filled by Icelanders. An Iceland Express advertising campaign written in Icelandic promotes Warsaw as a fun city, full of beautiful buildings, pretty parks and vibrant culture.

The cheap flights from Reykjavik to Warsaw are currently only a weekly service, but will increase to twice a week over the summer from June. There were also special flights in March to allow Polish workers a cheap and convenient way home for Easter.

Matthias Imsland, CEO of Iceland Express, said, “It’s a great pleasure to add Warsaw to our group of destinations and be able to offer tourists from Poland the opportunity to travel easily to Iceland and experience our unique nature and exciting culture.”

“I’m also sure that Icelanders will welcome the possibility to fly directly to Warsaw, since interest in travelling to Eastern Europe has grown rapidly for the last few years,” Matthias added.

Iceland Express is a low cost airline which operates scheduled flights between Iceland and 14 major European cities. Iceland Express uses convenient online booking and e-ticketing, and has no minimum stay restrictions or Saturday night stay rule.

Flights from Reykjavik to Warsaw are available through the Iceland Express website at www.icelandexpress.com.
