Fairtrade fashion bags from recycled carrier bags – perfect gifts?

Is it paper? Is it cloth? No, it’s recycled polythene bags!

London-based BindiBazar is marketing handbags and shopping bags made from discarded plastic bags. The result is interesting, beautiful and often unique pieces.

The bags are hand crafted and mainly made by underprivileged Indian women following an environmentally friendly process. This enables them to earn a living to support themselves and their families.

BindiBazar pays fair trade prices and the bags are now available in the UK in a number of outlets. They may also be purchased online at www.bindibazar.co.uk.

“Using a blend of creativity, design and innovation we’ve turned, what was once a dull environmental hazard, into a clean, funky and fashionable material, from which have been crafted a range of appealing handbags and fashion accessories” said Rita Sabharwal, the founder of Bindibazar.
