Lynn Todd is a sculptor whose work stems from her interest in the well-being of the human condition and its dependency on the interrelationships between the individual, the family, the community and the universal environment in which we exist. She draws on her own life experiences as a basis for her work.

Our society’s emphasis on wealth and celebrity status causes both isolation and exclusion within our communities. Todd’s artwork focuses on the emotional impacts on identity, both individually, and as a collective community group. Her sculptures attempt to strengthen our understanding of one another and encourage positive interactions.

Since arriving in London in 2003, Lynn has found herself in the role of an observer of the new community in which she now lives. One of the things she loves about London is the vibrant mix of people and energy encountered as part of daily routines, contributing to the diversity of the city. But, hidden boundaries and thresholds across London communities seem to exist, often dictated by the geographic location of the community within the city.

In this exhibition, Lynn attempts to capture the diversity and energy of the people and communities she encounters during her daily journeys from her home, in Islington (North) to her studio in Hackney Wick (East). She hopes by showing this work in another area of London (South), that the recognition of similarities across communities will be strengthened, which can start to eliminate these existing boundaries.
