A collection of huge bionic eyes forms the centrepiece of a stunning new international art exhibition which opened last week (10 February) at Fiat’s London flagship dealer.
Fiat Marylebone, in the capital’s Wigmore Street, was once again chosen as a venue for this leading art showcase thanks to its unique design and space. It was created in 2008 with art and fashion shows in mind as well as the ability to display cars, and has proved the perfect site for previews and receptions.
Last week, around 100 guests enjoyed a champagne reception while viewing the latest expo, Art in Park, featuring artists Daniela Ribeiro and Valentim Quaresma, and photographer Gonzalo. Art in Park is an international initiative helping young artists to get exposure for their work.
Daniel’s work, linked to the use of technological waste, features 14 bionic eyes made of components from around 2000 mobile phones. They represent the way in which people of the future can connect with the Internet through their own eyes.
Valentim also recycles, using everyday objects to transform into award-winning luxury fashion and jewellery items, effectively giving them another life.
The event was attended by actors Chris Ellison and Tom Chambers, who met Daniela and Valentim for an introduction to the artists’ work.
“The exhibition will run for a month at the flagship,” says Tony Dittli, managing director, Fiat Marylebone. “It’s part of a global support initiative for young artists and Fiat Marylebone is delighted to be promoting it in London. The bright, modern feel fits perfectly with Fiat’s own brand values.”
