Rise in Oil Resources in Norway

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) recently increased its estimate of undiscovered recoverable oil and gas resources in Norway.

The increase was 16% to 18.74 billion barrels of oil equivalent, up from its last estimate made in 2011 of 16.17 billion boe. The increase is due to resources in the Barents Sea south east region and the volcanic island of Jan Mayen that were not included in the report.

The NPD also said there is still a lot of oil and gas to discover in the North Sea, Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea. The directorate has mapped the south eastern part of the Barents Sea for possible new findings of petroleum in the Norwegian Sea.

Norway has discovered many exploration areas in recent years. The biggest discoveries were The Johan Sverdrup field (3.3 billion barrels of recoverable oil) and Johan Castberg field in the Barents Sea (400-600 million barrels of oil).

Due to increasing activity in the Norwegian oil industry, oil companies are recruiting new talents to join their teams through the TUjobs.com portal. The online recruitment website posts daily job vacancies in the Norwegian oil and gas industry. Some of the job positions advertised recently include:

• Senior Fabrication Engineer at National Oilwell Varco in Arendal
