Dentist in Calgary improves smile with dental crowns

The perfect smile is often hindered by dental imperfections, such as chipped or discolored teeth. Dr. Kim Orth, of Calgary’s Core Dental, offers dental crowns as a way to help patients improve the appearance of their teeth, restoring a healthier, brighter smile.

Dental crowns are often needed to improve the strength or appearance of a tooth, especially when it is discolored, misshapen, or chipped. Crowns, which are held in place by dental cement, can also be used to anchor dental bridges and cover dental implants.

Dr. Orth begins the dental crown placement process by taking X-rays to check the roots of the tooth receiving the crown, and the bone that surrounds the tooth. If the tooth is found to have extensive damage or decay, a root canal may need to be performed first. Before the process of placing the crown can begin, Dr. Orth numbs the tooth and its surrounding gum tissue. The tooth receiving the crown is filed down to make room for the crown. After reshaping the tooth, Dr. Orth will make an impression of the tooth to make sure that the crown will not affect the patient’s bite.

In his office, Dr. Orth uses the CEREC® dental restoration system to craft ceramic dental crowns for patients. Dr. Orth explains that dental crowns made of ceramic are a much better color match for teeth than crowns made of other substances. Furthermore, by using the CEREC® system, the need for a temporary crown is eliminated, as is the need for multiple office visits. Patients can now get a convenient full tooth restoration in just a few hours. Dr. Orth also notes that dental crowns typically last up to 15 years, look very natural, and do not require any special care.

In addition to dental crowns, Dr. Orth offers a variety of additional procedures to help patients achieve a natural and appealing smile, including teeth whitening, sedation dentistry, and porcelain veneers. These procedures can be combined for a total smile makeover, with Dr. Orth providing extensive patient education at the initial consultation for any procedure.

Patients work closely with Dr. Orth for the most appropriate and personalized treatment possible to achieve his or her perfect smile. Dr. Orth and his staff’s main objectives include comfort, convenience, and effective results.

If you are experiencing dental health problems, or are just looking to enhance your smile, you should consult a board certified dental professional today. With the right combination of cosmetic procedures, you can achieve a beautiful smile.

Dr. Orth practices at Core Dental in downtown Calgary, and interested parties are encouraged to find out more at http://www.coredental.ca.
