Companies can avoid fines and remain compliant using tools from CookieHub

CookieHub is tracking global data protection regulations and making compliance easier.

The importance of cookies and compliance when it comes to business websites cannot be overstated. Cookies are used by websites to access data on each visitor. Because of this, and in the interest of transparency and privacy protection, many regions and countries have created regulations to ensure users know what information is being collected and why.

On surface this may seem simple but on a closer look it’s more complicated than that. One complication is that there is not one singular regulation to adhere to. In addition to that, there can be sizable fines for businesses that don’t comply and even more regulations are expected down the road.

It’s all about tools and timing

“Staying current on the many user data and privacy regulations is something many companies don’t have the time nor resources to do. But if they want to keep big fines at bay, compliance is a must,” says Julius Gudmundsson, CEO CookieHub. He goes on to say, “It’s this space that CookieHub is filling for more than 15,000 websites in more than 70 countries. What we’re doing is giving companies the right tools and setting them up correctly so they don’t get fined.”

It is no small endeavour to keep up to date on the ever-changing regulations and financial penalties. While very similar in scope, many of these regulations differ in the details and are far from the same.

The big three regulations will be the most familiar to business owners and everyday users of the internet, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) and Brazilian General Personal Data Protect Law (LGPD), but many other regulations should be taken into consideration in order to maintain compliance.

Cookie regulations

Currently, GDPR is the most strict data protection law which encompasses
lawfulness, fairness and transparency, purpose limitation, data minimization, accuracy, storage limitation, integrity and confidentiality, and accountability. Compliance with only GDPR or even adding CCPA and LGPD compliance may seem all-inclusive but there are also more specific regulations for websites in Canada, France, Japan, Singapore, South Africa and Spain, just to name a few.

CookieHub is tracking both major and minor regulations, in addition to the many more that are sure to come, all in order to help their customers maintain compliance.
