Apprentice Engineers Welcome MP to Mark National Apprenticeship Week 2026

Bradford, UK – 09.02.2026: Engineering apprentices from Bradford College welcomed Judith Cummins MP to their workplace this week as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2026 (9–15 February), celebrating the impact of apprenticeships on local talent and industry.

The Labour MP for Bradford South and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons visited AESSEAL plc near Dudley Hill, where she met Engineering Manufacturing Technician apprentices currently training through Bradford College. AESSEAL, a global specialist in the design, manufacture and supply of mechanical seals and support systems, was named the UK’s top apprentice employer in the manufacturing sector for 2025 by The Sunday Times.

Following an introduction with Bradford College CEO & Principal Chris Webb, Ms Cummins toured the state-of-the-art AESSEAL facilities, observing apprentices as they demonstrated their newly acquired engineering skills.

Apprentices Alicia, Mohammed and Noah showcased how to operate CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machinery, cutting, drilling and finishing precision components used across engineering and manufacturing sectors. The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion, where apprentices shared their experiences and views on the value of apprenticeship pathways.

National Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration highlighting how apprenticeships create opportunities for individuals while supporting businesses and strengthening the wider economy.

Judith Cummins MP said:

“Apprenticeships open doors and create opportunities for learners, equipping them with valuable expertise while strengthening Bradford businesses. This partnership between AESSEAL and Bradford College is a great example of how education providers and employers work together with learners to grow local talent, and it was fantastic to see first-hand how apprentices are developing the advanced engineering skills that will drive Bradford’s manufacturing success for years to come.”

The Bradford College apprentices are enrolled on a Level 3 Engineering Technician programme, which builds core engineering and manufacturing knowledge. Through a blend of practical college-based workshops and structured workplace mentoring, apprentices develop technical competence and problem-solving skills, enabling them to support engineers, troubleshoot machinery and contribute to efficient, compliant operations across a range of industries.

Apprentice Noah Heald said:

“My apprenticeship has helped me develop new skills. I had no idea about CNC and machining – what it was or how to do it – before I started here, and now I can do it. That’s what I’m proud of being able to do.

“I like to think I do a good job, and I always try my best when I come into work. I try to get as much done as I can, in the best way I can, so hopefully I’m being a valuable member of the team.

“I’ve gained more confidence working with people who are experienced in the field. I hope to get as far as I can with CNC machinery as it’s something I enjoy and am interested in. I would 100% recommend an apprenticeship.”

Chris Webb, CEO & Principal of Bradford College, added:

“At Bradford College, we’re committed to supporting these fantastic apprentices and our local employers. Our apprenticeships—across specialisms from engineering to business administration—develop skilled, work-ready talent that is driving productivity, growth and long-term success across the region.”

Darren Jones, UK Learning and Development Manager at AESSEAL, said:

“By nurturing young talent through apprenticeships, AESSEAL is securing a pipeline of skilled professionals with immense potential and an exciting, fresh perspective on our industry. We are committed to empowering and equipping young people with the skills to shape the future of our region.”

Bradford College is an award-winning apprenticeship provider delivering training across engineering, construction, professional services, healthcare, dental, pharmacy, early years and teaching.

Prospective apprentices and employers can meet the team at the Apprenticeships Unlocked Event (9am–3pm, Victoria Hall, Saltaire) or the Apprenticeships Recruitment Fair (1–7pm, First Direct Bank Arena, Leeds) on Wednesday 11 February.
