Iceland Express celebrates 5 years of cheap flights

Sportacus, the superhero of Lazy Town, made a surprise entrance at Iceland Express’ 5 year anniversary celebrations at Stansted Airport yesterday.

Budget Icelandic airline Iceland Express celebrated its fifth year anniversary this week with a surprise appearance by children’s TV superhero Sportacus.

The star of Lazy Town Live, the stage show production of the multi-award winning children’s TV programme filmed in Iceland, joined the celebrations at Stansted much to the excitement of local children in the terminal.

To mark the occasion, Iceland Express is currently offering 5,000 seats at ₤53 including taxes, an offer which ends at 5pm on 28th February.

Iceland Express specialises in offering cheap flights to Iceland and operates 11 flights a week between Stansted and Reykjavik, Iceland. The low-cost airline started in 2003 with just two routes from Reykjavik to London Stansted and Copenhagen in Denmark.

“Iceland is in the world’s top 10 of ‘must see’ destinations and with Iceland Express set to add more flights onto their schedule from here, offering some of the lowest fares on the market and 50% discounts for children, this direct link to Reykjavik is set to continue being extremely popular for both our business and leisure passengers,” said Nick Barton, business development and planning director for Stansted Airport.

Iceland Express will add direct flights to Reykjavik from Warsaw this year as well as from Akureyri and Egilsstadir in Iceland to Copenhagen in Denmark.

The airline also flies to Barcelona, Alicante, Berlin, London, Oslo, Paris, Eindhoven, Frankfurt, Basel, Billund, Friedrichshafen, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Stockholm.

See the Iceland Express website for more information on cheap flights between Iceland and Europe.
