The Rosslyn Chapel was flooded with visitors after its appearance in The Da Vinci Code book and film, which lead to an urgent need of extra toilet facilities to be hired. Temporary portable toilet provider Portaloo was able to deliver toilet facilities that met the requirements of the Rosslyn Chapel Trust and the same toilet facilities have now been hired for a second season.
Colin Valentine, Visitor Services Manager at Rosslyn Chapel Trust, says: “In the space of two years, annual visitor numbers had risen from 67,000 to 175,000. We approached a number of temporary toilet providers for the extra facilities we needed. Portaloo proved to be the one that could best provide the size of toilet building we wanted, as well as meeting all our requirements.”
These requirements included the provision of totally mains-free facilities, since no mains water or drainage was available on the site. Portaloo (http://www.portaloo.co.uk) was able to supply a recirculating portable toilet facility, which cleans and recycles the water used for flushing the toilets. To provide hot and cold running water for the washbasins, Portaloo devised a pressurised fresh water pump system, using water from a tank sited adjacent to the toilet building.
This was a unique solution for the Rosslyn Chapel facilities, which no other temporary toilet provider could match. The portable toilets were hired from Portaloo for this reason.
Portaloo delivered the large male/female toilet unit on the agreed date. Such timely deliveries are assured by the unique Portaloo Customer Charter, which promises that all buildings will be delivered on time and on budget. It even pledges that if Portaloo ever fails to meet this commitment, it will provide a week’s free hire for every day it is late.*
The portable toilets were on site for the busiest part of the year, from June to October. Portaloo provided an ongoing maintenance service throughout the hire period, emptying the waste tank at regular intervals and ensuring the toilets continued to provide a high-quality environment for visitors.
The toilets were located in the car park, some distance away from the visitor centre. This successfully eased pressure on the shop and café, creating better access for all visitors.
Colin continues: “The Portaloo toilets gave us precisely the quality of facilities we were looking for and immediately solved the problem of congestion in the visitor centre. We were also very happy with the excellent service from the Portaloo team – they couldn’t have been more helpful. We intend to hire the same facilities for an even longer period next year, to cover our extended peak season.”
