European bookings increase says www.holidays-direct.co.uk as summer turns disappointing

Online tour operator Holidays-Direct have seen bookings to European summer holiday destinations rise in the previous couple of weeks, as it emerged Met Office predictions for a hot summer in the UK were overestimated.

At the beginning of April the Met Office predicted a great summer and with the all time low of the Pound Sterling against the Euro, many UK holidaymakers made a decision to holiday in the UK or ‘staycation’.

However, there has been a surge in bookings since the school summer holidays in the middle of July. Jon Pearce Marketing Manager of www.holidays-direct.co.uk says “We have noticed an increase in family bookings to European holiday destinations and more tropical holiday resorts. It seems holidaymakers no longer want to spend their summer here in the UK.”

 

Sun-drenched beaches and warm seas are attracting families to the Med, especially resorts such as, Alcudia, Benidorm, Albufeira and the Greek Isles. Euro-zone destinations have shorter flights in comparison to more exotic destinations such as the Caribbean, so are more favorable to the British holidaymaker.

Jon continues, “Turkey still remains our number one holiday destination however short haul destinations are favored to families with younger children and there are a lot of people asking for holidays in the Costa Del Sol, Costa Blanca as well as the Canaries and Greece. There are plenty of last minute deals available where sunshine is guaranteed.”
