Climbing to the top of the legendary volcano Vesuvius and visiting the buried city of Pompeii are just two of the exciting activities on offer for families in Italy this half-term. Active Turkey Family Holiday for Teenagers – 24th October – 1st November 2008

Families will spend two nights aboard a gulet, a traditional wooden sailing boat, cruising the turquoise coast and finding plenty of time for swimming and snorkelling. Later in the week, take sea kayaks to the sunken ruins of a submerged city and try scuba diving in the crystal clear waters of Kas.

Walk in the footsteps of gladiators in the Tunisian town of El Djem – home to the third largest amphitheatre in the Roman world – and explore the narrow, winding streets and souks selling all manner of trinkets and spices in Sousse. The highlight of this trip for many kids will be the journey across the barren Chott el Djerid salt flat followed by a camel trek to spend a night under the stars in a camp in the Sahara Desert. The final stop of the trip is in Djerba, the ‘Isle of the Lotus Eaters’, where parents can relax and kids can play on the beach.
